It has been a decade since Col. Bruce Hampton officially performed an entire show with his Aquarium Rescue Unit bandmates billed as ARU (although the musicians did come back together for a jam in 1999 during the Wetlands 10th Anniversary and also performed together this past spring New Orleans during Jazz Fest). Well, last night in Asheville, NC the Unit returned with Hampton, Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Herring, Jeff ‘Apt. Q-258’ Sipe and Count M’Butu. Fans are optimistic that the group will keep it going with additional shows looming: MagnoliaFest this coming weekend and the sold out Jam Cruise 3 in early January. Meanwhile, tonight the band returns to Athens, the site of many magnifcent Zambi moments with a gig at the Georgia Theater.
