The members of Widespread Panic have longed evinced their love of baseball, often vocalizing their support of the (formerly Boston) Braves (okay, JoJo Hermann is a Mets fan). Indeed the lyrics to One Arm Steve invoke the Say Hey Kid, Willie Mays, and ‘Rebirtha’ includes a few references to the sport (‘She said, ‘I know a town where real life’s a game/Baseball’s all that’s real/At night all the faces light up/As the players take the field’). On the afternoon of April 9, John Bell will belt out the national anthem at Wrigley Field prior to the Cubs/Brewers game. Bell will be in town with Panic concluding a three show run at the Chicago Theater. The bands long-anticipated tour opens tonight at the Fabulous Fox.
