Collaborations were aplenty at this weekend’s performance by the Everyone Orchestra. Founded by group mainstay Matt Butler, the Everyone Orchestra
features a revolving cast of musicians, culminating in an extended group jamled by several guest conductors.
Taking place at The Independent in San Francisco, this weekend’s core lineup included Marc Brownstein, Cecil ‘P-Nut’ Daniels, Samantha Stollenwerck, Kaveri Agashe, Henry Kaiser and ALO’s Steve Adams and Dan
Lebowitz. After years as the group’s backbone and drummer, Butler made his debut as conductor.
At the start of the night, JamOff Winners and New Groove of the Month alumni Ten Mile Tide provided a surprise opening set, later offering its
violinist, Steve Kessler, to the evening’s final voyage into space. Agashe also led a Kathak dance routine during a show-closing version of
‘Franklin’s Tower,’ while Brownstein debuted rearranged versions of The Disco Biscuits’ ‘Home Again’ and ‘Humuhumukununukuapua.’ A unique
configuration, Animal Liberation Orchestra’s Dan Lebowitz and Steve Adams also backed fellow San Francisco native Stollenwerck for a few song mini-set. ALO’s third founding member, Zach Gill, is currently in Europe performing as part of Jack Johnson’s touring band.
