Shortly before Dickey Betts’ spring tour kicked into gear, ‘Dangerous’ Dan Toler announced his departure from Great Southern. A longtime Betts collaborator, Toler performed in the Allman Brothers Band for a brief period of time in the late 1970s, later joining Betts’ Great Southern in the 1980s. In 2001, Toler joined the Dickey Betts Band, which quickly
morphed into a new version of Great Southern. Of his departure Toler says, ‘There are no bad feelings on my part toward any of the musicians, management, agency or crew in Dickey’s Band. I wish them the very best of
luck always and hopefully we will do a gig or two together on the same stage.’ Toler will devote his attention to The Renegades of Southern Rock,
which also features members of the Marshall Tucker Band, Double Trouble and the Wet Willie Band. Betts may very well discuss Toler’s departure in more
detail when he appears on the radio program Rockline’s tonight.
