Govt Mule and moe. celebrated Independence Day a bit early this year, sharing a joint bill at Morrison, COs Red Rocks Amphitheater. After winning a coin-toss on Sirius Radio, moe. closed the show with a single-set performance which featured an appearance from Warren Haynes on Mexico. Earlier in the evening, Govt Mule also welcomed a handful of guests onto the stage beginning with Xavier Rudd on No Celebration. Later, Mike Gordon, who opened the show alongside Leo Kottke, joined the Mule on a number he co-wrote, Banks of the Deep End. Recent Friend of Phil, Al Schnier then emerged for a pair of Dead-songs, Loser and Terrapin Station, before his moe. axe-foil Chuck Garvey appeared on Sco-Mule during the groups encore.
Later in the weekend, Govt Mule also welcomed some old-friends onstage during its Saturday and Sunday performances. At the High Sierra Music Festival Saturday, Steve Kimock joined Haynes and company for a version of the Rolling Stones Wild Horses. A night later, at Alta, WYs Grand Targhee Ski Resort, Brian Stoltz emerged for a number he has frequently appeared on in the past, 32/30 Blues. Tonight, Govt Mule will close out the first leg of its summer tour with a Warren Haynes handoff to the Allman Brothers at Milwaukee, WIs Summerfest.
