Last night the Disco Biscuits performed its first show since the departure of drummer Sam Altman at New Yorks Spirit. Part of an evening long Katrina Relief benefit, the Disco Biscuits performance featured a pair of alternating drummers. Longtime Disco Biscuits associate Mike Greenfield sat behind the kit first for Voices Insane, Little Shimmy In A Conga Line and Svenghali, while Altman looked on from the audience. Part way through Svenghali, Greenfield yielded to Duo drummer Joe Russo, who closed out the groups set for Confrontation, Three Wishes and Helicopters. A relatively rare number, Three Wishes is actually familiar territory for Russo as he performed the number in Electron as part of the Marc Brownsteins Chemical Warfare Brigade rock opera. Greenfield then returned behind the kit for an encore of Bazaar Escape. Throughout the night Chris Kuroda also served as a guest lighting designer. Nodding to Kurodas former band, opening act Flying Circus—-which features Russo, Brownstein, the Disco Biscuits Aron Magner and RANA Scott Metzger teased Phishs Maze before performing the Disco Biscuits own Little Lai.
