Tonight, Janes Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins will anchor the latest edition of his punk/jazz supergroup Banyan at San Franciscos 12 Galaxies. In addition to Perkins, tonights incarnation of Banyan will include bassist Firehose bassist Mike Watt, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline and trumpeter Willie Waldman, among others. After a days rest Thursday, Banyan will perform Friday in Fairfax, CA before ringing in 2006 at Mendocino, CAs Crown Hall. The groups New Years celebration will boast an expanded version of Banyan featuring Charlie Hitchcock, Rob Wasserman and Memphis Willie. In addition, Banyans New Years Eve show will feature sets by the Magic Box and Eric McFadden Trio featuring Hitchcock, as well as the Innocent Criminals rhythm section of Juan Nelson and Leon Mobley. Prior to Banyans set, Hitchcock, Wasserman and Waldman will lead a superjam, which will likely nod to the evenings freeform, exploratory nature.
