On New Years Eve, Galactic returned to New Orleans for the first time since Hurricane Katrina for a three-set show at Tipitina’s which stretched deep into the night. One of the venues first national shows since Katrina, and since the Big Easys curfew had been lifted, NPR broadcast portions of Galactics performance nationwide as it turned 2006 in the Central Time Zone. For the high-profile countdown, Galactic built a jam around Garbage Truck and Baker’s Dozen, before inviting former Wild Magnolias bandmates Big Chief Monk Bo Dollis and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux onstage for the Mardi Gras anthem Big Chief. Earlier, Anders Osborne also joined Big Chief Monk Boudreaux on Indians Comin Through. Osborne later returned to the party on guitar during Galactics third set for an instrumental jam. Throughout its performance, numerous additional guests also dotted Galactics homecoming performance including saxophonist Donald Harrison, guitarist Jonathan Freilich and the Hot 8 Brass Band. Galactic will perform tomorrow with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band at Orlandos House of Blues.
