In 2000 Thirsty Ear Recordings established its Blue Series which pairs contemporary jazz performers with a hip hop and electronica artists and producers. The latest installment is Scotty Hard’s Radical Reconstructive Surgery. On this release, Scott Harding, who has worked with many musicians, including Wu Tang Clan, Steven Bernstein and Medeski, Martin and Wood assembles a new quintet of players. Keyboard players John Medeski and Matthew Shipp, who were students at New England Conservatory of Music, are joined by bassist William Parker and Nasheet Waits on drums along with DJ Olive. The resulting twelve tracks which yield a process heavy record that recomposes a heavily improvised session.
