After earning a number of Best Album nods for its recent release, Eisenhower, The Slip closed out the New Year with a series of shows around the Northeast. Thetrio opted to celebrated December 31 at Brooklyn, NYs North Six, fittingly, opening its performance with Eisenhowers first track, Children of December. After running through the reflective Airplane/Primitive, the group brought in 2007 with I Want to Get to Heaven, a staple by the Slips side-band Surprise Me Mr. Davis. During I Want to Get to Heaven, the evenings opening act, New Yorks Meowskers, filtered onto the stage and offered a version of their own Spread the Gospel with the New England-bred trio. The collaboration was a particular milestone for Meowskers frontman Matthew Rudnicki, who served as one of the Slips roadies in their early days. After offering an obligatory version of Auld Lang Syne at 12 AM, the Slip segued into their early chestnut The Weight of Solomon. (From 1997s From the Gecko). Later in the evening, Akron/Familys Dana Janssen played percussion alongside Andrew Barr during an extended drum segment
