On Wednesday and Thursday nights, the Independent in San Francisco hosted special performances by Galactic and a number of guests. A Benefit for Houseman served as a salute and fundraiser for the ailing former Galactic vocalist. Numerous musicians participated on both evenings, including Leo Nocentelli, Ivan Neville, Ian Neville and Radioactive. The music, as one might expect, focused on material that Houseman (aka Theryl deClouet) performed with the group, as he stepped up on vocals for Something’s Wrong With This Picture, Never Called You Crazy, Bittersweet, Start from Scratch, Century City, Vilified, Love On The Run and others. Additional guests over the two evenings included Kirk Joseph, Mike Dillon, Derrick Freeman and Les Claypool. As for the Primus bass player, he appeared late in the evening on Thursday and in addition to joining the cavalcade of players, he also stepped out with Stanton Moore and Jeff Raines for a trio interlude, as the three delivered the Primus song, John the Fisherman.
Galactic is off until an August 11 appearance at New York City’s Central Park Summerstage.
