Over the weekend Ween bassist Dave Dreiwitz ran into some problems while trying to make it to his gig with Bustle In Your Hedgerow at Chicagos Double Door. First the busy bassists original flight was cancelled and, then, his second flight was delayed by 4 hour landing Dreiwitz in the Windy City after Bustles performance had already started. Luckily the remaining members of Bustle are social guys and called in a few ringers who were already in the area a few minutes before show time: American Babies Tom and Jim Hamilton, who were in town for the Wicker Park Festival, and Umphreys McGees Brendan Bayliss, who had just returned home earlier in the day from a gig in New Hampshire (please see story below).
The three musicians rotated bass duties for the first 45 minutes of the show, covering everything from Over the Hills and Far Away, which featured Bayliss trying his luck on a few less strings, to Tom Hamilton’s live bass debut on Immigrant Song to Jim Hamiltons take on Out on the Tiles. Dreiwitz arrived at the club at the end of Joe Russos Moby Dick drum and strapped on his bass to finish the song and Bustles show. Bustle In Your Hedgerow will appear next at Camp Bisco, while American Babies will play New Yorks Mercury Lounge on August 6.
