Philadelphia’s Dr. Dog got their start opening for My Morning Jacket
who also helped revitalize the Slip’s career after the Slip helped
kick-start the Benevento/Russo Duo, but before the Slip spent the
spring of 2006 touring with Sam Champion and Apollo Sunshine (the
former of whom Joe Russo has drummed with on occasion and the latter
of whom the Duo also took on the road in 2006). This fall that web of
cross-pollination will grow a little tighter when Dr. Dog and Apollo
Sunshine spend much of October on the road together. The tour will
open October 4 at South Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground and is
scheduled to conclude October 27 at Hattiesburg, MS’ Thirsty Hippo,
making stops throughout Canada and the United States along the way.
Before then, Apollo Sunshine will play Mansfield, MA’s Download
Festival on August 18, while Dr. Dog will open for Elvis Perkins at
Boston’s Museum Of Fine Arts on August 8.
