Before he scored a spot with indie-pop sensations The Shins, Eric Johnson supported Guster on the road with his longtime group the Fruit Bats. Through his label Sub Pop Johnson met the Garden State heroes and has since signed on as The Shins fulltime multi-instrumentalist. While performing in the Sub Pop capital of Seattle on Saturday, Guster hooked up with their old friend and invited him to play banjo on their song G Major and the Fruit Bats When U Love Somebody. Guster will perform with Brett Dennen at Vermillion, SDs Slagle Auditorium this Thursday, while The Shins open an extended fall tour at Berkeley, CAs Greek Theatre on October 5.
