Over Columbus Day weekend the 2007 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival took place in San Franciscos Golden Gate Park. As its titles suggests, the event featured a variety of roots musicians, ranging from bluegrass to blues to rock to folk to jam. For many, the weekends highlight was an all-star set by legend T-Bone Burnett, whose backing band included Neko Case, Doyle Bramhall II and John Mellencamp, the latter of whom led the ensemble through a version of his Pink Houses, while others described a solo performance by Jeff Tweedy as the weekends peak moment. As expected, a number of musicians also opened their sets up for collaboration, including Keller Williams who brought out Bela Fleck and Victor Wooten for a handful of numbers, Gillian Welsh, who invited out Emmylou Harris, and Los Lobos, who were augmented by pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz, guitarist Dave Alvin and his bassist Gregory Boaz, among others. In total, the festival reportedly drew over 450,000 fans over the course of the three days.
