Guitarist Will Bernard is up for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, where his Party Hats disc will compete with four other recordings, including Herbie Hancock’s River: The Joni Letters. Phil Lesh & Friends alum is in the Best Contemporary Blues Album category along with Joan Armatrading, Doyle Bramhall, JJ Cale & Eric Clapton and Bettye LaVette. The Best Reggae Album category is a star-studded affair, with recordings by Burning Spear, Stephen Marley, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Sly & Robbie And The Taxi Gang and Toots & The Maytals all vying for awards. The eclectic Best Pop Instrumental Performance category includes tracks from Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Beastie Boys, Dave Koz, Joni Mitchell and Spyro Gyra. Levon Helm’s Dirt Farmer (Best Traditional Folk Album) and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss’s ‘Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)’ (Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals) also are among the nominees for the show which will take place on February 10.
