Reggae-icons Toots & the Maytals will open Green Apples Washington, DC festivities a performance at The State Theater on April 17. Maytal has been an important part of Green Apple since its inception: In 2004, he appeared at the Jammy Awards, which helped spawn Green Apple, and in 2006 Toots & the Maytals played New Yorks Nokia Theater as part of the festivals inaugural event. Toots & the Maytals will also participate in a free show as part of Green Apples flagship event at Washington, DCs National Mall on April 20. In addition, the all day event will feature performances by The Roots & Friends (featuring Doug E. Fresh, Ne-Yo, Talib Kweli, will.i.am and Chrisette Michele), an acoustic set by O.A.R., Gov’t Mule, a DJ set by Thievery Corporation, Warren Haynes, Umphrey’s McGee, the CityDance Ensemble and a special opening performance by American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, among others.
