This past Friday, George Porter Jr. helped open The Howlin’ Wolfs new Northshore location in Mandeville, LA. The night drew in a number of familiar New Orleans musicians, including Russell Batiste (PBS,Funky Meters), Mark Mullins (Bonerama), John Gros and June Yamagishi (Papa Grows Funk). Porter has been a longtime supporter of the Howlin Wolf throughout its storied history and has lined up an additional jam-session at the venues flagship location during Jazz Fest. The gig will take place on May 3 featuring appearances by Porters Meters mate Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste and Stanton Moore, among others. Porter will appear next at New Orleans The Maple Leaf this coming Thursday with The Trio.
