Today, electronic producer Tycho released a new single titled “Small Sanctuary” with an official visualizer. The song, released via Ninja Tune/Mom + Pop Music, was a joint venture with Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor, who mixed the track and assisted with production, furthering a collaborative connection that began with their song “Time To Run.”
“Small Sanctuary” was premiered during 2023’s Burning Man during Tycho, a.k.a. Scott Hansen’s sunrise set – now a tradition – and the free open environment served as the perfect scene to explore the song’s theme.
“Innocent and unburdened by the trappings of modern life, children are a pure expression of the human condition,” Hansen said of the song. “To watch them grow and learn is to witness a sanctuary for the human spirit. I wrote this song for my daughter, who brings me limitless joy and inspiration.”
According to Hansen the artwork that comes with the song “represents the menagerie of experiences and ideas that form our selfhood. From early life to adulthood, we collect these things in our memory and they come to define us.”
“Time To Run,” also arrived with a visual element: a music video capturing Hansen’s experiences with the meditative power of music while cross-country running, directed by Patrick Elmore. Watch the music video for the song here.
