On Thursday, April 18, Umphrey’s McGee performed at The Windjammer on Isle of Palms, just outside Charleston, S.C. During the band’s performance, they brought out Ryan Stasik’s Doom Flamingo band member Kanika Moore to assist on a second set cover of The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence,” representing a bust out. Afterward, the ensemble honored the late Dickey Betts by performing the Allman Brothers Band great’s instrumental classic.

Prior to the night’s most talked-about moments, UM started its stand with setlist frequenter, “Conduit,” before running into “Example 1” and “Looks.” In time, they merged “Tribute to the Spinal Shaft” with “Morning Song,” ultimately sending the aforementioned number into a brief break before the arrival of “Utopian Fir,” which cascaded into “Come As Your Kids” and back into the former.

After the set break, the band resumed their positions on stage, starting frame two with “Robot World” before bringing out a guest, Moore, to assist on The Beatles’ favorite, “Dear Prudence.” The cover also represented a but out, concluding a 396-show gap, last played on Aug. 30, 2018. Another run of originals, “Believe the Lie,” “It Doesn’t Matter,” “Andy’s Last Beer,” “No Comment,” and “Den,” marked the end of the set.

Upon their return for the night’s encore, Umphrey’s McGee thoughtfully paid homage to Betts, whose passing was announced earlier in the day. For the tribute, the ensemble covered The Allman Brothers Band’s instrumental classic/ Betts composed original, “Jessica.”
