Phish – 6/3/11 “Down With Disease” from Phish on Vimeo.

Phish played its first outdoor show in the Metro Detroit-area in almost 20 years last night at Clarkston, MI’s DTE Energy Music Theater. The show fell on Mike Gordon’s birthday and Trey Anastasio wished the bassist happy birthday during “NICU” first set. He also teased “Happy Birthday” during the song and again during “Down with Disease.”
The latter song spirarrled past the 24-minute mark, makring it one of the longest Phish jams of the past few years (and a full 20-seconds longer than the group’s extended “Seven Below” from Albany 2009). Also of note, the show did not feature any Phish originals written after the group’s 1996 album Billy Breathes. Phish will perform at Cuyahoga Falls, OH’s Blossom Music Center tonight.
