An earlier acoustic jam
Phil Lesh hosted his annual Philharmonia benefit concert in San Francisco Sunday afternoon. This year’s event—which benefited the Bay Area Woman’s & Children’s Center—featured a unique acoustic band consisting of Lesh, his son Grahame, Bob Weir and Jackie Greene as well as Furthur backup singers Jeff Pehrson and Sunshine Becker.
The musicians offered a combined, extended set that was heavy on Grateful Dead chestnuts like “Not Fade Away,” “China Cat Sunflower,” “I Know You Rider,” “Cassidy,’ “Cumberland Blues,” “The Wheel,” “Box of Rain,” “Sugar Magnolia,” “Ripple” and “Attics of My Life.” The group also performed two of Greene’s songs—“Gone Wanderin’” and “Sweet Somewhere Bound”—and The Band’s “The Weight” (a song Weir performed a night earlier with Mickey Hart and Sammy Hagar). The show closed with a surprise cover of Los Lonely Boys’ version of “Feliz Navidad.” Furthur recently confirmed an extensive 2011 tour.
