On Saturday, Feb. 17, Moon Taxi concluded a three-show sprint through Tennessee and North Carolina with a grand finale at the Brooklyn Bowl in their hometown of Nashville, Tenn. This homecoming performance featured an opening set from psychedelic indie rockers The Hip Abduction before a 20-track set accented by a surprise guest sit-in from genre-bending country star Marcus King.
After nine original songs that culminated with a fitting selection of “Hometown Heroes” from the group’s 2021 album Silver Dream, Moon Taxi marked the midpoint in the set by welcoming the iconic King to the stage for a two-song collaboration. Together, the artists began with a rousing debut rendition of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ “Running Down A Dream,” then shifted gears for a unique treatment of Moon Taxi’s 2023 original, “What’s Coming Next.” Following King’s guest appearance, the band presented seven more cuts from its mounting seven-album discography, punctuated by a presentation of 2013 fan-favorite “Morocco” to conclude the set. Moon Taxi later returned to that stage for an encore, composed of its well-loved version of Rage Against the Machine’s “Bulls on Parade” and “Classics,” the lead single from the group’s most recent album.
King’s guest appearance with Moon Taxi precedes the release of his hotly anticipated third solo album, Mood Swings, set to drop on April 5. King will begin his album release tour on March 7 with a performance at Love Rocks in New York, kicking off a run of 59 North American and 17 Europe performances. The extensive tour will keep the singer on the road until Nov. 12; visit marcuskingofficial.com/tour/ to find an upcoming appearance near you.
