Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artemis Pile has brought together an all-star lineup of musicians to take part in a new album featuring music that honors his time with the Florida Rock band, responsible for many rock-and-roll staples that will appear on the impending set, titled Anthems, is due on February 2, 2024.
The 13-track assemblage pulls in contributions from the likes of Ronnie Dun, who helms the seminal classic “Sweet Home Alabama,” in addition to Sammy Hagar’s take over of “Simple Man” and Dolly Parton’s “Freebird” lead. Elsewhere on the album is Warren Haynes’ reimagined “Saturday Night Special.” Serving as the lone Pyle band tune is “Call Me The Breeze,” which appeared on Lynyrd Skynyrd’s 1974 album, Second Helping, though a J.J. Cale 1972 original.
“This project has been a year in the making, but when the fans hear it, they will understand why it took so long,” says Get Joe Records president Len Snow. “Artimus is legendary within the Southern Rock space. The music that Lynyrd Skynyrd made will always live as a part of rock history. This album honors that music and gives Artimus a way to honor his former bandmates.”
Anthems will be released and distributed by BFD/Orchard. The first single off the set is due on digital format on October 20. The aforementioned date coincides with the 46th anniversary of the tragic plane crash that made music history and resulted in the tragic deaths of band members Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and their road manager, Dean Kilpatrick. Pre-order the physical CD at ArtimusPyle.com.
