Over the weekend, Widespread Panic performed three consecutive nights at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre in St. Augustine, Fla. The run commenced on Friday, March 24, and extended till Sunday, March 26. During the coastal shows, the band delivered many fan favorites plucked from their extensive archive of originals and covers. High points from the weekend included a bust out of Willie Dixon’s “Spoonful” and a live debut of J.J. Cale’s “I Got the Same Old Blues.”

The Friday, March 24 concert began with a pairing of “Pigeons” with “Hatfield” before the band followed up with a tune off Bombs & Butterflies. After another original, they switched gears and added in a cover of J.J. Cale’s “Travelin’ Light,” which merged with a set-ending rendition of “Papa’s Home.” The second half of the show picked up with covers of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” and Talking Heads’ “Life During Wartime.”

In continuation of the second set, Widespread Panic added in a sampling of self-penned numbers prior to a bust out of Dixon’s “Spoonful,” which was last performed by this unit of musicians on Oct. 31, 2019, in New Orleans. They followed up with Jerry Joseph’s “Climb to Safety” before capping the frame with “Saint Ex,” featuring an inverted intro.

Saturday’s initial set moved gracefully through a range of materials, such as “Wondering”,” “Greta,” “Action Man” and “C. Brown.” Then, they added borrowed music, with the inclusion of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Tail Dragger,” before kicking back to originals with “Little Kin,” “Sundown Betty” and “Fishwater.” Finally, the second half presented the weekend’s climax, as the musicians ran through a first-time take on Cale’s “I Got the Same Old Blues” to kick off the second frame.

The night continued with BloodKin’s “Henry Parsons Died,” followed by “Travelin’ Man” into “The Walker” and another Cale original, “Ride Me High.” Next, “Drums” arrived prior to a pair of Brute tunes to conclude Saturday’s main set. Once again, on Sunday, Widespread Panic appeared at the Florida venue. The third and final stand presented more originals and a sprinkling of covers pulled from Van Morrison, Tom Waits, Dr. John and Traffic’s catalogs of music and ended with a double encore.
