Last night, Feb. 2, the Disco Biscuits continued their stand at Higher Ground in South Burlington, Vt. Before the main act took the stage, yesterday’s show saw opener Karina Rykman team up with keyboardist Aron Magner during part of her set. The sit-in was a mix of covers and originals, showcasing a heaping batch of talent.

The opening set got underway with “Joyride,” which beckoned a high level of musician courtesy of both Rykman, her backing band and their guest, Magner. In continuation of the night’s initial frame, the musician and her guests worked through the title track from Rykman’s 2020 release, City Kids. The previously mentioned number came before “No Occassion” which ran over into a reinterpretation of Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” before closing their collaborative offering on LCD Soundsystems’ “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House.” Next, Magner left the stage, and Rykman capped her frame with “Atom Dance” and “Elevator.”

After the opening frame wrapped, Disco Biscuits unleashed their first set of music, which kicked off with “Resurrection” into “Bernstein And Chasnoff.” Then, the previously mentioned track morphed into “Tricycle,” “Freeze,” and an unfinished “Little Betty Boop.” Eventually, they returned to notes from “Bernstein And Chasnoff” to close the first set.

For their second frame, Disco Biscuits brought up Marc Brownstein’s son, Zach, who added a backbeat to “Vassillios.” Then, another guest arrived, local resident and member of Dopapod, Eli Winderman, added keys alongside Magner during the night’s rendition of “Twisted in the Road.” Next, a cover of Conspirators “Orch Theme” bled over into Altman’s “Floes.” The band returned to its originals on “Space Train” before ending the second half of their show with another taste of “Twisted in the Road.”

The band delivered “We Like to Party” for the evening’s encore. Next, the Disco Biscuits will continue their 2023 winter tour with a performance at Albany, N.Y.’s Palace Theatre, tonight. The Friday night display will include an opening set by Snakes + Stars (Michael Travis and Aaron Johnston). Read more here
