Last night, Goose and Trey Anastasio Band continued their ongoing joint tour with a stop at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, N.Y. The performance followed the current format of a rounded first set by Goose with Trey Anastasio sitting in on the final two songs, followed by a performance by Trey Anastasio Band rounded out with sit-ins by members of Goose.

Goose began their set with their slow-burning song “So Ready,” which featured rousing guitar work by Rick Mitarotonda and stretched to over 13-minutes before they moved into the bluesy original “California Magic.” Next, they debuted their newest song, “Thatch,” a funk-fueled track lush with bass by Trevor Weekz, which is now just three days old. They continued with Marven Gaye’s “Don’t Do It” though it was fashioned in the style of The Band’s rendition of the Motown classic. They followed up with a 20-minute “Madhuvan” before Anastasio joined for the final two songs taking on lead vocal duties along with Peter Anspach on “Red Bird” and instrumental set closer “Hot Tea.”

After a brief break, Trey Anastasio Band took to the stage, opening with “Drifting” before Anastasio ripped into “Set Your Soul Free” and “Ocelot.” Next came the Page McConnell penned “Magilla,” a smooth rendition of “A Wave Of Hope” and the heart-rending “Shade.” James Casey then added some incredible brass on “Burlap Sack And Pumps.” Next came a blues-tinged jam of “Spin” before percussionist Cyro Baptista guided the ensemble into “Last Tube.” Next came a jam of  “Hey Stranger” > “Valentine” before Anspach and Mitarotonda joined on keys and guitar, respectively, on “Mr. Completely” and “Rise/Come Together” to close the set.

After cheers and extended rounds of applause, Trey Anastasio Band and all of Goose returned to the stage for a cover of Phish’s “Possum.”

Trey Anastasio Band and Goose will continue their joint tour at the UPMC Events Center in Moon, Pa., on Nov. 15. Stream the show via nugs.net here.
