Last night, Trey Anastasio Band and Goose continued their joint arena tour with a stop at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell in Lowell, Mass. The evening started with a run of songs by Goose, with Anastasio joining on the final two tracks; before a second frame heralded by Trey Anastasio Band, with members of Goose joining the mix throughout the set, before a full ensemble encore.
The evening kicked off with Goose dipping into their discography with “Drive,” “Echo of a Rose,” and a cover of past project Vasudo’s “Rockdale.” They then moved into “SOS,” “(dawn),” and “Silver Rising” before Anastasio joined to add his masterful guitar over Goose favorites “Wysteria Lane” and “Arcadia.”
After Goose had the crowd a bit more than warmed up, Trey Anastasio Band took to the stage and opened with “Cayman Review.” From there, they continued to jam through Phish selects and favorites from Anastasio’s solo discography, hitting ” Olivia,” “Ghost,” “A Life Beyond The Dream,” “Simple Twist Up Dave,” and more. They closed the set with “Back On The Train” into “Steam,” which featured Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda on guitar and Peter Anspach on keys.
After a short break, Anastasio returned to the stage to perform a solo acoustic rendition of “Theme From the Bottom.” Next, Mitarotonda joined him in the format for a beautiful “Strange Design.” For the final song of the evening, the rest of Goose joined the stage for “Blaze On” which evolved to an all-out full ensemble jam to close the night.
Goose and Trey Anastasio Band will perform again tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
