James Casey has tested positive for COVID-19. The multi-instrumentalist released the news on social media, informing fans that he would no longer appear on stage with Phil Lesh & Friends at their July 4 performance at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, N.J.

In a statement shared by the musician, he wrote, “The view from my hotel room is as close as I’ll get to the show tonight. Covid finally caught up to me after 2.5 years. I’m sorry I won’t be able to play tonight but I’m doin ok and will see y’all soon.”

Phil Lesh commented on the post, “We’re sorry you can’t be here and wish you a speedy recovery!” He concluded, “We’ll jam another day.” Additional collaborators, including Oteil Burbridge, Bill Kreutzmann and Phil’s son Grahame Lesh added words of encouragement in the comments section of Casey’s Instagram post. On Saturday night, Casey played alongside the Trey Anastasio Band at The Peach Music Festival at Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pa. The performance included a surprise sit-in by Celisse, who joined the band on “The Moma Dance,” “A Life Beyond the Dream” and “Rise/Come Together.”
