David Crosby and Joe Walsh are set to headline a benefit concert held at Kent State University on May 2. The show will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Kent State massacre, which occurred on May 4, 1970. It will take place at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center on Kent State’s campus.

On May 4, 1970, 28 National Guard soldiers fired upon students protesting the extension of the Vietnam War. The attack killed four students and wounded nine more. At the time, Walsh was a student at Kent State, but the shootings changed his view of school. “After that, I didn’t look at college the same,” he said in an interview with the San Diego Tribune. “Being at the shootings really affected me profoundly. I decided that maybe I don’t need a degree that bad.”

Walsh will be performing with Barnstorm, a trio made up of Joe Vitale (drums) and Kenny Passarelli (bass). Vitale was also a student at Kent State during the massacre.

In response to the massacre, Neil Young wrote “Ohio” for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

Proceeds from the show will go toward the May 4 Legacy Scholarships, which are four scholarships named in honor of the four fallen students: Allison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, Sandra Scheuer and William Schroeder.

Tickets to the show go on sale on March 6 at 10 a.m. ET. For more information on the show and to purchase tickets, click here.
