Black Pumas, an up-and-coming, soul- and hip-hop-influenced duo from Austin that made a splash at last month’s South By Southwest, have announced they will release their self-titled debut full-length album on June 21 via ATO Records.
The group has also shared a new single from the record, “Colors,” which premiered over at Afropunk. Speaking on the classic R&B-informed track, the group—which features singer Eric Burton and producer/multi-instrumentalist Adrian Quesada—notes: “Eric woke up midday and started the song as the sun was going down. He was inspired by the rich multicolored hues of the sky. The song was written in the themes of mortality and togetherness.”
Listen to “Colors” below. Black Pumas will make their New York City debut at the Knitting Factory on May 15 before heading to Europe later in the month. The band will also play a number of festival and headlining dates this summer.
