Tedeschi Trucks Band played a two-night run at the Chicago Theatre this past weekend, followed by a surprise collaboration between Susan Tedeschi and blues guitar legend Buddy Guy at another venue in the city.
On Saturday evening, TTB’s fourth and final set of the weekend saw the collective dig into the expansive Allman Brothers Band cut “Dreams,” with Derek Trucks’ slide guitar channelling the late Duane Allman’s iconic sound. After her band’s performance at the Chicago Theatre, Tedeschi made her way over to Buddy Guy’s venue Legends where the guitarist was leading his band and joined the icon on stage to help out on vocals and guitar for John Hiatt’s “Feels Like Rain” (which appeared on Guy’s album of the same name). The two also shared plenty of stage banter, with Guy chastising Trucks for not showing up and expressing his love for Tedeschi and her music, along with Tedeschi calling Guy one of her heroes. Watch video of the collaboration below as shared by Guy’s Facebook page (Tedeschi emerges soon after the 1:17:00 mark).
