Phish drummer Jon Fishman is headed back to school.
Or, more accurately, he is joining the teaching staff at Rockport, Maine’s Bay Chamber Music School.
According to a story in the local Republican Journal, Fishman is one of five new faculty members for the 2018-2019 year, and the school is exciting for him to bring his “vast knowledge of playing the drums to all ages and abilities at Bay Chamber.”
In recent years, the drummer has become more active in his local community of Lincolnville, Maine. He is the owner of the Lincolnville General Store and he was elected to the town’s five-person selectboard in June 2017.
“I guess I could sit on my butt somewhere and not be engaged,” the drummer said at the time of his election. “But we do have a personal stake in the well-being of the town…If I’m going to do it, I want to do a good job. I’m going to be engaged, and I have no interest in doing it half-assed.”
In the meantime, Phish are slated to hit the road this fall for a full tour, including four nights in Las Vegas for Halloween.
