Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country have debuted a new music video for their original song “Double Exposure.” Directed by esteemed photographer Danny Clinch, the visual companion piece presents Donato and his band, Will  McGee (bass, vocals), Nathan Aronowitz (keyboards, vocals), and Will Clark (drums), leaning into their funkiest realm yet, which eulating the music into layered scenes that embrace a psychedelic element that intersects visually and sonically. The video debut arrives alongside an exclusive conversation with Donato and Clinch, moderated by Relix Editor-in-Chief Dean Budnick.  

“Double Exposure” was initially released on Donato’s 2023 fan-favorite collection, the sophomore set, Reflector. In the video, the band returns to the desert city of Joshua Tree, Calif., where the dehydrated landscape helps establish an otherworldly atmosphere (think the cosmic surface of Mars) by using trippy scenes morphed in the editing process to generate a throughline that highlights a marriage of lyrics and instrumentals visually represented through the overlay of superimposed clips, to generate the namesake special effect. 

Beyond brief clips of the band in nature, the soul of the video lives in the decision to showcase a live performance of the original song. From load-in to stage time, Clinch presents a chronological capture akin to a day in the life of this group of musicians. Notably, this is the second Clinch-shot video of the band in the cactus-clad environment after the February release of the Reflector sister tune, “Dancing in the Desert.” Watch now. 

As an added compliment to the ongoing collaborative relationship between Donato and Clinch, the pair took part in a conversation with Relix’s Dean Budnick, in which they traverse a myriad of topics, from the music video itself to influences from the jam world, Grateful Dead and Phish.
