Acclaimed genre-bending singer-songwriter Noah Lehrman kicked off his Arctic/Equator concert set with a performance in Reykjavík, Iceland last Wednesday, Feb. 28. This one-night stand at Gaukur provided the first pole in the artist’s ambitious transnational tour, which will complete with an engagement on the equator in Singapore in April.

Lehrman opened his destination set with the riotous, garage rock-inflected 2014 single “Who Said?,” setting the tone for a twelve-track show of high-energy, positive acoustic rock. General highlights within this performance included the artist’s well-traveled medley of “Come,” “Twist” and “Reason” and staple covers of the Grateful Dead’s “Me & My Uncle,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and an acoustic treatment of Beastie Boys’ “Paul Revere.” The artist also included two cuts referencing his Arctic/Equator shows, first with the Mandarin-titled original “Chingwa Tiao/ 青蛙 跳,” or “Frog Jump,” in reference to the official language of Singapore, followed by a debut of Phish’s “Farmhouse,” interstitched with Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry,” in which the artist swapped in the lyric “I just saw the northern lights,” which he managed to capture on camera the night before.

Lehrman’s next live appearance will be his Singapore set, booked at the country’s Hard Rock Cafe on April 16. Later this year, the performer will go on to present some of his research and writing on Phish lyrics at Oregon State University’s Phish Studies Conference on May 17-19.
