The Avett Brothers have heralded their long-awaited return with the reveal of The Avett Brothers, the folk-rock quintet’s first full-length album in five years. Set to release on May 17 via  Ramseur Records/American Recordings/Thirty Tigers, this latest project features production from Rick Rubin, who championed the band from its inception and collaborated on five of its previous entries, including 2019’s Closer Than Together. To accompany the album announcement, the band has shared the storming, scrappy lead single, “Love Of A Girl.”

The forthcoming nine-track album marks The Avett Brothers’ full-length homecoming to Ramseur Records, which last issued the band’s beloved 2007 dispatch Emotionalism. Recorded at Malibu’s storied Shangri-La Studios, around Nashville, Tenn. and Mar Vista, Calif. and in the band’s hometown of Concord, N.C., The Avett Brothers is at once a hard reboot for the trailblazing Americana outfit and a studied, attentive return to its roots. The new project is guided by its laser-focused philosophical lens, determined to turn up the sacred from the minute and meager and whole-heartedly embrace the incomprehensible. These themes shine through from “Love Of A Girl,” a raucous exhibiting blues-rock cut that zeroes-in on the minutia of modern romance.

After a series of winter engagements, including the April 9-13 The Avett Brothers At the Beach concert getaway in Riviera Maya, Mexico, the band will set out on a tour to support its highly anticipated new album. The band’s first appearance will coincide with the album’s release on May 16 at The Mann Center in Philadelphia, launching the group into a summer and fall tour that will truck coast to coast with a slew of supporting acts. Among this sprint’s many highlights will be a three-night residency at Morrison, Colo.’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre from July 5-7, where the band will be joined by Little Feat, Melissa Etheridge and Dawes.
