Sam Beam has announced the arrival of a new Iron & Wine album, titled Light Verse. This long-awaited offering is set to release on April 26 via Sub Pop, seven years after Beam’s last solo album Beast Epic and five following Years to Burn, his 2019 collaboration with Calexico. To accompany this announcement, Beam has dropped the rapturous lead single “You Never Know,” as well as the dates for a massive North American tour this summer.

“You Never Know” builds from a whisper on the wind to a roaring, heart-wrenching climax and back again with the support of an ensemble comprised of guitarist David Garza, keyboardist Tyler Chester, bassist Sebastian Steinberg, percussionists Beth Goodfellow, Griffin Goldsmith and Kyle Crane and strings from Paul Cartwright. Elsewhere, Beam calls on a 27-piece orchestra for five tracks and taps the legendary Fiona Apple for a vocal duet on “All In Good Time.” Light Verse was produced by Beam and mixed and engineered by Dave Way.

Iron & Wine’s album release tour begins on June 14 in Milwaukee and features 37 stops throughout the US and Canada before its conclusion at the Grand Ole Opry’s storied Ryman Auditorium on Aug. 24. Notable bookings include engagements at Chicago’s The Salt Shed, Houston’s White Oak Music Hall, Boston’ Road Runner and two nights at The Bellweather in Los Angeles. Read on for a complete list of Beam’s planned performances.
