The Disco Biscuits have begun the roll-out of their ninth studio album, Revolution in Motion, due on March 29, 2024, by delivering the first part of the set. Today’s delivery comprises four previously released singles, which serve as the initial renderings of the ensemble’s Space Opera story. Coupled with the news is a previously unseen seven-minute comic book-style animated film.

The initial concept for The Disco Biscuits’ latest endeavor was contrived by guitarist and lead vocalist Jon Barber, who worked alongside collaborator and friend Joey Friedman in August 2021. By the start of the following year, they began writing songs with the help of band member Aron Magnor, described as “music aliens would love.”

The group went on to deliver all 14 tracks live on tour in 2022 as they applied final touches to the cuts, which Barber describes as “The underlying theme is ‘Another Plan of Attack.’ Sometimes in life things are going one way when something very unexpected happens and presents an opportunity. You can turn the other way and continue doing what you were before, or you can lean into this opportunity and achieve things you never thought were possible.”

Notably, “Shocked!” emerged on the road as a jam vehicle during the band’s Electric New Year’s set on Dec. 31, 2023, paired with “The Deal,” which segued into the countdown to 2024. Prior, The Disco Biscuits presented an inverted “Another Plan of Attack” on May 20, 2023, and expanded and improvised “The Wormhole” stretched to the 28-minute mark on August 10, 2023, in East Hampton, N.Y.

Today’s drop features already sampled live material, including “Shocked!,” “Twisted in the Road,” “The Wormhole” and “Another Plan of Attack.” A medley of all four songs is included in 3D creator Blunt Action’s visual equalizer, which introduces the viewer to the world of  Polyfuzia, Fuzzies, Space Trains, royal family drama, and the inevitable Freeze of Times Square.
