On Nov. 20, Tool took the stage at  Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada. During their performance, the ensemble welcomed Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson on a live rendition of “Jambi.” Following Lifeson’s surprise appearance, the Rush guitarist shared a message onstage and a unique gift to Tool’s guitarist Adam Jones.

The evening’s presentation was split into two frames of music, commenced with “Fear of Inoculum,” followed by “The Pot” and “Rosetta Stones,” featuring a “Lost Keys” intro. Next, they added “Pneuma” and “Descending,” ultimately preceding the specialty sit-in with “The Grudge.”

After concluding the aforementioned number, the band welcomed their guest on “Jambi,” off Tool’s 2006 set 10,000 Days. Integrating both bands’ material, the song started with Rush’s “A Passenger to Bangkok” intro, followed by Lifeson’s  guitar solo over Adam Bangkok’s rhythm, leading into “Jambi.”

Lifeson followed up from the experience via social media stating, “What an honor and delight it was playing with one of my favorite bands last night,” Lifeson wrote. I’ve loved [Tool] since the first time I listened to them. They are such a great band and I am lucky to call them friends.”

Last night’s sit-in wasn’t the first time Lifeson joined Tool onstage. Just last year, during the all-star tribute concert in Los Angeles honoring the late Taylor Hawkins, Lifeson teamed up with fellow bandmate Geddy Lee and Tool drummer Danny Carey for an electric performance of Rush’s “YYZ.”
