Today, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong released a new single titled “Alright Tonight,” days before they set out on an extensive North American tour. The mellow song is new territory for the funk-fueled live band, who have performed the tune less than a dozen times despite their extensive touring.

The song features introspective lyrics as the band works through what it means to be satisfied and the universal search for said feeling. These ideas flow around a repetitive guitar motif and accentuate a guitar solo from Greg Ormont – his first studio solo on a song.

“We had just finished playing a different song at band practice when I started singing the initial guitar line, which I then played. Gator joined with a slick drum groove, then Jeremy and Ben developed a unique chord progression that wrapped perfectly around the melody, and my vocals started flowing,” Ormont shared in a press release. “From there, we put our minds on it and fleshed it out pretty quickly. We always listen back later to fine-tune and add more parts where appropriate, but the initial genesis of this song was really organic, which is always a great sign.”

The Baltimore-bred quartet are also set to bring their sound to Suwannee Hulaween in Live Oak, Fla. on Oct. 26. The rest of their tour will take them across the United States, with stops in Texas, California and Kentucky, and more, before ending their expedition with a two-day New Year’s stint at the House of Blues in Boston on Dec. 30 and 31.
