Following up on Umphrey McGee’s impending New Year’s Eve schedule, which will take the band back to their Chicago hometown for three nights on stage at The Riviera Theatre on December 29, 30 and 31, the group of musicians have tacked on a trio of supporting drummers, that will step in and assist during the celebratory events, while the band’s prominent backbeat, Kris Myers, recovers after rotator cuff surgery.

Previously, Umphrey’s McGee has shared plans to welcome lespecial, who have been billed as special guests during December 29 and 30 gigs. Fittingly, Rory Dolan (lespecial’s drummer) has agreed to assist with percussions during the previously mentioned dates. In addition, on Dec. 29, they’ll also host drummer Mike Portnoy, and on the following night, Goose’s Ben Atkin will step up and remain behind the kit till the band’s New Year’s Eve proper performance on Dec. 31.

On Instagram, Umphrey’s McGee presented the news of the added drummers, saying, “The kit has been set, and the musicians are here. We can’t wait to rock with these fine gentlemen.” Tickets for Umphrey McGee’s already-announced New Year’s Eve stand are on sale now.
