A new documentary film exploring the relationship and musical endeavors of The Mars Volta and At the Drive-In, titled Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird, released its first trailer. The film, which will premiere at the Raindance Film Festival on Oct. 28, 2023, was compiled from 100s hours of footage by Omar Rodríguez-López, recorded in a 20-plus year span.
Through the trailer, viewers get a glimpse of the creative endeavors and space Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, his partner in both The Mars Volta and At the Drive-In, carved out for themselves. Over one minute, a VHS-style collage of visual imagery, performance footage and raw audio creates a window “into the incredible journey of one of this generations most progressive and prolific musical partnerships.” In one of the last flashes of the trailer, the project details that it is a film by Nicolas Jack Davies, known for his films Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records and Mumford & Sons – The Road To Red Rocks.
Notably, this year, The Volta dropped Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazón, an acoustic reimagining of their 2022 self-titled LP. Read more about their recent endeavors here.
