Last night marked the start of the West Coast stretch of the summer tour for Dave Matthews Band, as they took the stage in Highland, Calif. During the performance at the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino at San Manuel, the band surprised the audience by playing “Spoon,” a track from their 1998 album Before These Crowded Streets marking exactly four years since they performed the song live.

The show kicked off with a sequence of songs including “Virginia In The Rain,” “Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back),” and “When The World Ends.” The band incorporated tracks from their recently released studio album Walk Around The Moon, like “Madman’s Eyes,” “The Only Thing,” and the title track. The remainder of the main set for the evening consisted mainly of fan-favorite classics, many off of Under The Table & Dreaming.

“Spoon” made its appearance in the 13th slot of the setlist. The track was played often playtime in 1999, it has been rare in recent years. The last time it was performed was on Aug. 24, 2019, at Fiddler’s Green near Denver. After “Spoon” they continued with other favorites like “Lie In Our Graves” and “Grey Street” which concluded the set.

The encore was lush with iconic songs and covers including “Looking For A Vein” which initiated the segment, the showcase also included an epic rendition of “All Along The Watchtower,” embellished with a touch of Led Zeppelin’s iconic “Stairway To Heaven.”
