In a musical celebration that resonates with the spirit of The Days Between, the annual tribute to Jerry Garcia’s enduring legacy, the Bay Area collective Moonalice have shared a spirited reinterpretation of the Grateful Dead classic, “Attics of My Life.” The ensemble infuses their distinctive soulful touch into the Garcia and Robert Hunter-penned staple.
Moonalice, fronted by the captivating T-Sisters vocal trio–Erika, Chloe, and Rachel Tietjen– invite listeners to embark on a contemporary journey honoring the timeless influence of Garcia. Further honoring Garcia’s enduring presence, Moonalice are set to illuminate two significant events this month: a performance at The Oakland Athletics Jerry Garcia Night on Aug. 18 and a featured appearance at Terrapin Presents: Sunday Daydream on Aug. 27.
Reflecting on the creative process behind the reimagined rendition, Rachel Tietjen shared, “The poignant lyrics and haunting melody of ‘Attics of My Life’ immediately captivated us. This song holds a special place in our hearts as it was the first Grateful Dead track the T Sisters recorded back in 2015. What began as an a cappella interpretation blossomed into an enchanting collaboration, seamlessly weaving our sisterly harmonies with the band’s exceptional musicianship. We invite you to immerse yourselves in its beauty.”
Notably, the group includes the father-son duo Lester and Dylan Chambers, the aforementioned T-Sisters vocal trio, and instrumental virtuosos Barry Sless, Pete Sears, John Molo, Jason Crosby, and Roger McNamee.
“Attics of My Life” is a testament to the T-Sisters’ unique influence within the Moonalice repertoire – their ethereal harmonies lend enchantment to other Grateful Dead classics in the Moonalice catalog, including renditions of “Uncle John’s Band” and “Brokedown Palace.” The shared history between Moonalice and the Grateful Dead extends beyond the realm of music – Pete Sears’ collaboration with Garcia and Mickey Hart for the 1988 Watchfire album, Roger McNamee’s advisory role for the Grateful Dead, and John Molo’s contributions to The Other Ones and Phil Lesh and Friends underscore the deep interconnectedness of the musical entities.
In a harmonious convergence of music and environmental consciousness, Moonalice has recently partnered with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit organization dedicated to global reforestation. Through this partnership, each follower of Moonalice on Spotify contributes to the planting of a tree, aligning the band’s musical journey with a shared commitment to nurturing the Earth.
