Roger Waters has set a release date for The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, an ambitious reinterpretation of Pink Floyd’s eighth studio album. The set will be shared on October 6, 2023, and arrives 50 years after Waters recorded the original with the British lineup. As a preview, the artist has shared the album’s lead single, “Money,” and its accompanying lyrical video.

Pink Floyd’s original The Dark Side of the Moon album was recorded when Waters was 29. In the official press release, the artist pulled the LP’s first line as a fitting ode to his current project: “The memories of a man in his old age/ are the deeds of a man in his prime.” On the reinterpreted collection, Waters embellishes the five-decade-old set with gained perspective, philosophy, and wisdom that can only be gathered over time.

The Dark Side of the Moon Redux sees Waters and Gus Seyffert’s production stripped from the initial psychedelic orchestration to something richly textured and dripping with the raw emotions of the exquisite lyrics across the 10-track assemblage. Also included is a bonus 13-minute original composition inspired by the re-recording as a final track.

Waters shared comments on the set via a press release. He stated, “The original Dark Side of the Moon feels in some ways like the lament of an elder being on the human condition. But Dave, Rick, Nick and I were so young when we made it, and when you look at the world around us, clearly the message hasn’t stuck. That’s why I started to consider what the wisdom of an 80-year-old could bring to a reimagined version.

“When I first mentioned the idea of re-recording The Dark Side of the Moon to Gus and Sean we all thought I was mad, but the more we considered it, the more we thought ‘isn’t that the whole point?’” He continued, “I’m immensely proud of what we have created, a work that can sit proudly alongside the original, hand-in-hand across a half-century of time.”
