Last night (July 21), Dave Matthews Band graced the stage at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, N.J., delivering an unforgettable night filled with a mix of new favorites and cherished classics.
The evening commenced with the soulful rendition of “Virginia in the Rain,” setting the perfect tone for the night ahead at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion. The crowd’s excitement soared as they sang along to every word of “Help Myself” and “Walk Around the Moon,” highlighting the band’s exceptional musicianship, be it a 1997 classic or a fresh 2023 recording. A highlight of the night was undoubtedly “#41,” accompanied by the seamless transition into “Pantala Naga Pampa.” They continued with “Rapunzel,” which saw the song breaking down at multiple points, leading to a captivating improvisational ending.
Dave Matthews Band continued to mesmerize at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion with “Looking for a Vein” and “Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back),” skillfully incorporating “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” into the setlist. “After Everything” further elevated the evening’s ambiance. Next, they played “Recently” with mesmerizing outros of “Pretty Pretty Girl” and “Take Me To The River.” “So Damn Lucky” continued to keep the groove moving along, with had interpolation of “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).” As the night progressed, they moved into “Monsters” and “Grace Is Gone” before they hit the crowd with “Hunger for the Great Light” until “Spaceman” carried them through an ethereal musical journey.
A delightful surprise came with the band’s rendition of “Late in the Evening,” before “Cha Cha” brought more excitement to Camden. After performing “The Stone” which featured a heartfelt interpolation of “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” the night reached its pinnacle with a riveting performance of “Two Step,” complete with a dynamic “Time Bomb” intro. As the crowd eagerly anticipated the encore, the band delivered “Seven” in its entirety for the first time at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion. The show concluded on a high note with the first-ever encore of “Seven,” which was followed by “Crush” which saw a mesmerizing solo from Stefan Lessard.
