On Saturday, June 10, Trey Anastasio Trio continued their stand at the Mission Ballroom in Denver. The performance brought forth two sets of music and an expansive collection of songs delivered by the group’s namesake, in addition to drummer Jon Fishman and bassist Dezron Douglas. During the show, the three players dipped into first-time live deliveries, solo material scribed by the bandleader, and choice selections plucked from the Phish archive.
Last night’s concert started with “I Never Needed You Like This Before,” a tune that unleashed each player’s instrumental strengths as they worked through the number. The group followed up with the first public performance of “If I Could See The World,” which was initially performed during Anastasio’s Beacon Theatre livestreams, sans an audience, making last night’s run-through all the more impactful for the band and crowd. The evening continued with a rendition of “Spin” followed by “Undermine,” which merged into “Ghosts of the Forest” and a first-time rendition of “The Endless Dream.”
The musicians added the title track off Anastasio’s 2022 mercy record before following up with another debut, “On The Pillow Jets.” The previously mentioned song arrived before the night’s delivery of Phish’s “46 Days,” which catapulted the trio into the night’s set break. Upon their return, the latter half of the evening commenced with a debut of “Outside The Lines,” which segued into “Ruby Waves” and, inevitably, “Machine,” which also marked a first-time play for the trio. “About To Run” preluded “The Moma Dance” and the final song of the second set, “Twist.”
For the night’s encore, Anastasio, Fishman and Douglas reemerged and added “A Wave of Hope” to cap their Saturday night stand in the Mile High City. The final performance of the ensemble’s three-night run will take place this evening. Tickets remain on sale. To purchase, visit this link.
