Staten Island-based Afro-Soul outfit The Budos Band have confirmed plans to launch a new EP this summer. The forthcoming project, entitled Frontier’s Edge, is due out July 28 via the band’s own label, Diamond West Records. This morning, the jammers treated fans to an early listen to what will be their sixth studio release, dropping the EP’s fiery title track on all streaming platforms.

Notably, Frontier’s Edge will serve as The Budos Band’s first new music on their internal label, which is spearheaded by the group’s saxophonist Jared Tankel and guitarist Tom Brenneck. Prior to this release, the ensemble maintained a two-decade-long relationship with the legendary Daptone Records.

In a press release, the musicians described their departure from Daptone as amicable and an organic result of the band’s natural evolution and detailed the vision and recording process behind the project, emphasizing their focus on self-containment and autonomy. “We’re a powerhouse in the studio; we can produce ourselves,” Brenneck stated in the press release. “I take the helm, but the band, they know what they want.” Drummer Brian Profilio echoed this sentiment, adding that the group’s DIY approach allowed them to write six songs in just two days.

In addition to dropping the new EP, The Budos Band will embark on a series of live dates this summer. The band will hit the road a month before the EP’s release on June 28, making stops across the U.S. and Canada before heading overseas for a set at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival on July 28. Then, on Aug. 25, they will return to the States for a final show at The Thing Festival in Port Townsend, Wash. View The Bono’s Band’s complete summer tour schedule and ticketing information here
