Greensky Bluegrass have shared “Congratulations & Condolences,” a rare B-Side release from their most recent album, 2022’s Stress Dreams. Paul Hoffman and Joshua Davis co-wrote the song, which arrived today, alongside an accompanying video that showcases exclusive footage from the studio.

The track was written after Davis lost his father and welcomed a son just days apart. The timing of two major life events presented a mix of congratulations and condolences, which gave striking context to the complexity of life and friendship in the face of joy and heartbreak.

The song captures the human experience of life’s ups and downs. At the same time, the official music video feeds off the naturalness of the track’s message through the use of 8mm grainy tape, which underscores the lyricism and depth of the song, “How did we become friends like this/congratulations and condolences.”

Following today’s release, Greensky Bluegrass will play at Rooster Walk Music & Arts Festival on May 27 before heading to Iceland for the first-ever Camp Greensky Iceland, which will occur from June 3 through 5 in Reykjavik. Upon their return, the band will resume their U.S. tour, where they’ll welcome Neighbor, Big Something, Amanda Shires, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, The Wood Brothers, the Teskey Brothers, and Sierra Ferrell as support on select dates.
