Jamgrass icons Leftover Salmon will release their new full-length cover album, Grass Roots, on May 19 via Compass Records. The collection features songs from which the band has long-drawn influence and includes versions of bluegrass standards and grassed-up covers. Ahead of the impending release, the group has dropped their iteration of Link Wray’s “Fire And Brimstone,” featuring Oliver Wood. 

“Fire And Brimstone” pays homage to Leftover Salmon’s self-coined genre of “poly-ethnic Cajun slam grass” and features a full dose of New Orleans flavor. Initially conceived as a tribute to The Neville Brothers, the single features longtime drummer Alwyn Robinson, whose backbeat illuminates the band’s latest drop. 

Grass Roots will showcase all the firepower this ensemble has amassed and mastered to interpret the music that inspired them from across genres, with sped-up, explorative renditions of songs penned by the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, David Bromberg and others. The album will also feature appearances by contemporary players such as Billy Strings and Darol Anger, not to mention new member Jay Starling on lap steel, keys and resonator guitar.
